OISSE has Summer Research Participant

Hello.  My name is Youlawn Williams.  I am fifteen years old.  I was born in Lafayette, Louisiana and raised in Omaha, Nebraska.  I currently reside with my mother and two other siblings.  I have a very loving and supporting family, and I owe my success to all the support they have given me.

The thing which has always interested me most throughout my life is school.  I enjoy school more than any other pastime I can think of.  I have always regarded school as a place of business, and as a result to maintaining a professional mind set, I have been very successful in my studies.  I have never been an active person or won any trophies, but personally I feel that my grades are a trophy.  I feel overwhelmingly confident while I am at school, and the most amazing part of being at school is the respect that I have gained from my peers as well as my teachers and administrators.

When I become an adult, I would like to pursue a career as a physician.  I have always wanted to be a doctor dating back to my early childhood.  My inspiration is not only the desire to help people, but an inspiration that comes directly form my home.  My mother was in a severe accident when she was 24 years old, and she was left disabled and unable to continue to pursue her career.  I watch my mother suffer everyday in her unending pain, and I can’t help but to want to help other people.  I don’t want anyone to suffer the way my mother does, and so I am inspired to continue to pursue my dreams every time I see my mother’s beautiful face.

I am currently participating in a summer research program at Creighton University.  Being here is like a dream because I have the highest respect for Creighton, and I hope that I will be lucky enough to attend such a prestigious education facility.  I hope that the effort that I am putting forth through participating in the wonderful program that I am involved in will prove to be beneficial when it is time for me to register for college.

I enjoy listening to music, and I try to incorporate music into all of my daily activities.  I also enjoy playing with my little brother.  He is a very loving person, and perhaps one of my biggest advocates.  I don’t have many friends because I do not feel that it is appropriate to socialize very much in school.  I am have a wonderful time participating in the summer research program and I am looking forward to the rest of my summer.  I appreciate you taking the time to learn more about me, Thankyou.
