Scholarship Besides offering community
engagement activities for students in the health
professions, OISSE also works towards scholarship
through grants,
publications and
presentations
exemplifying the work completed and the success of the
academic-community partnerships established through
OISSE.
The local outreach of OISSE is focused on two Native
American communities located in rural Nebraska. OISSE
offers rural interdisciplinary student training through
a Health Resources and Services Administration Quentin
N. Burdick training grant. This grant entitled
Circles of Learning:
Community and Clinic as Interdisciplinary Classroom
(HRSA Grant # 1 D36HP 03158) provides student training
for students in nursing, medicine, pharmacy, physical
therapy and occupational therapy from 7/1/04-6/30/07.
OISSE has a ten-year history with the
tribal communities with direct support from HRSA.
